Visited the Newark Museum yesterday to view one of my favorite paintings.
Visited the Newark Museum yesterday to view one of my favorite paintings.
"Twilight, Short Arbiter Twixt Day And Night." Painted in 1850 by Church. I can't help but be moved by it, and relate to what's happening in the world today. The ominous sky and pending storm are symbolic for social turmoil and unrest. In Church's time, many feared the country was headed for civil war. Church felt that the "paradise" that was America was indeed on it's way to being "lost."
"Short Arbiter Twixt Day and Night," is based on a section from "Paradise Lost" by Milton.
